The truth about used hybrids
Many people worry about buying a used hybrid because of the battery. How long it is covered depends on the make and the car: Toyota UK and Lexus UK publish their own terms (the battery question above gives them), and other makers differ, so ask what cover is left on the exact car you are looking at.
The real advantages? In the city you'll notice the difference in your wallet. You start in electric mode, brake and recover energy, and when you need power the petrol engine kicks in seamlessly. Road tax follows the same rules as a petrol car: £200 a year at the standard rate if it was first registered from April 2017, or its CO2 band if registered 2001–2017 (band A, up to 100g/km, is £20 a year). On a newer hybrid the saving is at the pump.
