Used vans on Autoza right now are priced from £1,295 to £53,490, averaging £15,030. Some vans and pickups are advertised plus VAT and many do not say whether VAT is included, so these prices mix the two: read each advert for its VAT position. These are the asking prices of the ones listed today, so they move as stock is added and sold.

Only on a van sold with VAT charged on it. If you are VAT-registered and the van is for business use, you can usually reclaim the VAT shown on a proper VAT invoice — adverts often say "plus VAT" for these. A van advertised as "no VAT" is usually sold under the margin scheme or by a seller who is not VAT-registered, so there is no VAT to reclaim. Check with your accountant before you buy.

Vans are taxed at the light goods vehicle rate, not the car rate. A van up to 3,500kg revenue weight, registered from 1 March 2001, pays £360 a year, electric vans included. A van registered 1 March 2003 – 31 December 2006 that meets Euro 4, or 1 January 2009 – 31 December 2010 that meets Euro 5, pays £140 instead — the registration date alone cannot tell you, so ask the seller. A van registered before 1 March 2001 is taxed on engine size like a car of that age: £230 a year up to 1549cc, £375 above it.
