Toyota Avensis: what MOT records show
MOT records show 74.1% of Toyota Avensis cars pass the MOT first time, 4.3 points better than the national average for cars of the same age (69.8%). Counted from 5,560 DVSA tests on cars registered 2004–2017; a pass with rectification at the station counts as a pass here, and as a failure in DVSA's own initial-test measure.
A car with only minor defects or advisories still passes its MOT; a major or dangerous defect is a fail. Class 4 tests in Great Britain, test type NT (a normal annual test), retests excluded. A pass, or a pass with rectification at the station, counts as a first-time pass; DVSA's own initial-test measure counts a rectified pass as a failure and so reports a lower figure. Testing in Northern Ireland is run separately by the DVA under its own rules.

Before You Buy a Used Toyota Avensis
- Ask the seller for the registration number, then check the MOT history for failures, advisories and recorded mileage — it is free on GOV.UK.
- Make sure the V5C logbook matches the seller and the vehicle, and ask for the service history.
- With the registration, run a vehicle history check (such as HPI) for outstanding finance, write-offs and theft.
- Test drive it, and ask the seller about any warranty — it is between you and them, not Autoza.
