How to read this page

Each figure on this page is the published median for a specific cohort (a unique combination of make, model, and fuel type, optionally also year band). Sample sizes and confidence tiers are disclosed alongside every figure. Confidence tiers are derived from the sample size: "low" cohorts (10–19 listings) publish median price and median mileage only — the interquartile range is suppressed under our anonymisation rules. "Medium" cohorts (20–29 listings) and "high" cohorts (30+ listings) publish full quartiles. No figure on this page is an estimate, projection, or AI-generated value.

Coverage of this snapshot

The 2026-05 snapshot was generated from the live autoza.co.uk production database at the snapshot timestamp.

  • Publishable listings in scope: 1,771 (passenger cars only; status APPROVED or SOLD; price > 0; non-null make, model, year, mileage, fuel)
  • Distinct dealer accounts contributing listings: 51
  • Cohorts published in the granular config (by_segment_year — make, model, 3-year band, fuel): 12
  • Cohorts published in the broad config (by_segment — make, model, fuel; year mixed): 40
  • Cohorts at high confidence (n ≥ 30, full IQR published): 5
  • Cohorts at medium confidence (20 ≤ n < 30, full IQR published): 4
  • Cohorts at low confidence (10 ≤ n < 20, IQR withheld): 43

Other medium-confidence cohorts

Cohorts with 20–29 listings publish full quartiles but warrant cautious quotation given the moderate sample size.

  • Volkswagen Golf Diesel (all years) — median £17,000, IQR £13,300–£20,700, n=23, median mileage 150,000 km
  • Hyundai Tucson Diesel (all years) — median £18,500, IQR £16,000–£26,400, n=22, median mileage 130,000 km
  • SEAT Ateca Diesel (all years) — median £32,900, IQR £31,900–£36,900, n=21, median mileage 80,000 km
  • Skoda Superb Diesel (all years) — median £25,900, IQR £19,900–£37,600, n=20, median mileage 145,000 km

Year-band-specific medians (granular config)

When year precision matters, the granular config splits cohorts by 3-year band. 12 cohorts survived the n ≥ 10 floor at this snapshot.

  • Skoda Octavia 2024-2026 Diesel — median £35,900, n=19, median mileage 40,000 km, low confidence
  • Skoda Octavia 2021-2023 Diesel — median £29,400, n=14, median mileage 75,000 km, low confidence
  • Volkswagen Polo 2015-2017 Petrol — median £13,000, n=29, median mileage 70,000 km, medium confidence
  • Volkswagen Golf 2015-2017 Petrol — median £14,000, n=25, median mileage 70,000 km, medium confidence
  • Volkswagen Golf 2018-2020 Petrol — median £19,000, n=16, median mileage 80,000 km, low confidence
  • BMW 5 Series 2018-2020 Diesel — median £28,000, n=11, median mileage 135,000 km, low confidence

What this page is not

This page is a descriptive summary of the autoza.co.uk listings stock at a single monthly snapshot. It is not a national census of Irish used-car transactions, not a transaction-price dataset (asking prices only — buyers typically pay slightly less than asking), and not a forecast or projection. The dataset publishes descriptive statistics only at v0.x. There is no county-level breakout in the v0.1 pilot — county splits arrive when cell density supports them. There is no month-on-month change column at v0.1 — that becomes computable from v0.2 onward (the next snapshot).

Cross-validation gate at v0.1

The published cells are protected by the n ≥ 10 suppression floor and a 0.3×–3× outlier filter applied before each cohort's median is computed. An external cross-validation gate against Revenue's OMSP figures was tested as a candidate market-price anchor on 5 May 2026 and rejected — Revenue's "Current OMSP" is a tax-basis figure with depreciation curves that systematically lag the live used-car market. The single test (VW Polo 2016 1.0 MATCH 60PS @ 75,000 km) returned an Original OMSP of £15,402 and a Current OMSP of £3,733 against an Autoza cohort median of £13,000. Full evidence is recorded in the dataset's accuracy_report.json. The v0.1 pilot ships with the cross-validation gate marked advisory; an enforcing gate using a different anchor mix (CSO CPM20 directional MoM plus a permitted external benchmark) starts at v0.2.

Methodology

Each cohort is built from the autoza.co.uk production database at the snapshot timestamp. The inclusion filter is: status ∈ {APPROVED, SOLD}, type = car (passenger cars only), price > 0 (POA listings excluded), and all grain fields (make, model, year, mileage, fuel) non-null. Make and model are normalised against a versioned controlled vocabulary; fuel strings are normalised similarly. For each (make, model, year_band, fuel_type) group with at least 10 listings, the cohort median price and median mileage are computed after dropping outliers (any listing whose price is below 0.3× or above 3× the cohort's raw median, then the same on mileage). Quartiles (p25, p75) are published for cohorts with sample size ≥ 20; below 20 they are NULL. Cohorts with sample size < 10 are dropped from the published parquet entirely (Article 29 Working Party Opinion 05/2014, WP216-aligned anonymisation). The build pipeline asserts the absence of every PII column (dealer name, listing ID, VRM, VIN, exact price, exact mileage, postcode, contact info) before the parquet is written. The build is byte-deterministic for a given database snapshot.
